The Comics Thread

Talk about anything here. Post lifespan is 1 year.

Postby Darkknight37 on Sun May 16, 2010 2:06 pm

Hey guys, thought I'd make a thread devoted to all things comics! Comics are what got me into art, and I'm sure many of you EB'ers appreciate the medium just as much as I do. So if anyone wants to talk about new releases, favorite titles, or suggest a title, I'm hoping this can be the launching point!

I'll start off by saying hands down my current favorite ongoing series is Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead by Image Comics!

Yeah I know what you mean, the other thing is comics are too damn expensive. And Black Hole was excellent.

I've been wanting to read Y for a really long time, and now that I finally finished 100 Bullets (which I highly recommend) I think it's time to finally give it a read!

BONE by Jeff Smith is my favorite comic of all-time. I can't wait to see the movie for it.

I started out with spiderman and superfriends comics (and wacky packages stickers) even before i could read them. then i'd buy old comics like sad sack and house of mystery (GREAT covers on these) from garage sales with my newspaper money as a kid. then I moved onto the AMAZING comic art and sci fi stories of Heavy Metal magazine (I have the entire collection from 1977 to 2002 - the early issues are so good, the later, meh), Sin City, Pitt, the Maxx and Spawn, as well as misc underground comics i'd find boxed away in comic shops. but then i started collecting posters from shows i went to and...

I still read some Marvel titles (Thor, New Avengers, really like the Dark Reign and Siege storylines), and have read every issue of Unknown Soldier (Vertigo) since the title was launched. Wouldn't say I'm an avid reader, but I still definitely appreciate the art form....

Oh, I know. I was just having some fun. Poster and comic nerdery almost go hand in hand. The only comics I have are that whole death of superman fiasco. I still have one copy of the issue where he actually dies in the sealed plastic bag. I don't know what to do with them since they're practically worthless (i think). I guess they're a good reminder of my high school days and I'll keep them for nostalgic purposes.
