And those lost levels are the real SMB 2, not the crap one we got here in the states! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mar ... ost_Levels

now stop playing marios and get to that ZELDAAAAAAA
Thanks, Stark.

Looking forward to Zelda, for sure, but it'll be tough to get me off of these Marios. I love to run and jump!

I was reading about the Lost Levels/SMB 2 thing. Now I get why our version is the way it is. (Still looking forward to playing through it again though.)

I've been reading lots of 'Top 10 Mario Games' lists and I'm surprised that Super Mario World is on top of nearly all of them. That's impressive. I'm only in World 2 and I'm loving it, but I'll be surprised if it passes some of my other favorite Mario games. It's tough to pick a favorite. I'll always rank Super Mario Bros. for NES high, and I love SMB 3, Mario 64, and both Galaxy games. I really enjoy the updated 2D side scrollers for Wii and Wii U too. Sidenote- I keep trying to use the updated Wii controls and moves on the Super NIntendo because they're built into my muscle memory. I forget that there is no wall jumping or shaking of the wii controller to spin mid-air and get that extra distance. My wife laughs every time I shake it, which is often (and usually ends with Mario's death).

I hope Super Mario World does rank near the top for me. I had no idea that it was so acclaimed before reading those articles. If any Mario fans care to chime in with their favorite Mario games (or Top 5 or 10), I'd be interested in seeing your picks/rankings.
Favourite Mario is Galaxy, runner up is World.

You'll have a great time with Super Metroid, it's a masterpiece. Play Link To The Past first though!

Pressing Start to switch between kicking and punching? Forget that. MK was way better on Super Nintendo.

This is why you played with a 6-button controller! :D :D :D :D

I'm not sure if it's just because we didn't have one, or because Mortal Kombat on SNES didn't have blood in it, but I always had a kind of bias or grudge against the system. I liked F-Zero and played it at friends' houses, but never played much else on the SNES, including Super Mario World. Admittedly, I'm not much of a gamer (never played a PS3, PS4, or any XBox), but I've always loved Mario games. I bought a Wii and Wii U just for the Mario games.

Recently, 24 Super Nintendo games fell in my lap, and I was considering a quick sale at a retro game shop for some extra Disney show money. They offered me $100 cash or $200 store credit. The guys said I had a lot of essentials and classic titles in the box. I saw that they had SNES systems for sale and figured I'd get my money's worth of enjoyment out of the games if I opted not to sell them and get a Super Nintendo instead. I picked out the games that interested me (16 of them) and traded in the remainders towards the system (a model I hadn't seen, pictured below), an extra controller, F-Zero, and extension cords.

I gotta say, I've been having a blast with the system. I hooked it up to my old tube TV in the bedroom and it looks better than I anticipated. The colors are bright. Super Mario World is a lot of fun (and the music is surprisingly good), and I was thrilled when I discovered that Super Mario All Stars has the original 3 SNES Mario games and a Lost Levels game I'd never heard of. The NES Super Mario Bros is the first game I ever played and probably my all-time favorite game. It's been fun to check out the version on SNES with the updated graphics and sound. I was thrilled to discover that Lost Levels is basically a harder remix of the original - that's right up my alley.

These are the games I have. I don't have a ton of time to play, but I look forward to slowly going through them.

Disney's Aladdin
Donky Kong Country 2
F-Zero
Home Alone
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mega Man X
Mortal Kombat II
NHLPA Hockey '93- (I bought this one because my brother and I still play this game on Sega during the holidays and I was curious to check out the SNES version. It's very similar, but the Genesis version has far superior music and a better deke move that makes scoring easier.)
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Star Wars
Super Return of the Jedi
Super Street Fighter II
Timon & Pumbaa's Jungle Games

Didn't really know where else to share my newfound enthusiasm for the SNES, hence the post :pint:

Other SNES games I'd recommend:

Knights of the Round (one of my all-time favs, AMAZING soundtrack, surprisingly difficult)
Maximum Carnage (may be the best Spider-Man/Venom game to date)
Super Punch-Out
Hyper V-Ball (don't get turned off by Volleyball...)
StarFox
Sunset Riders

That should be a good start!

Hell yeah, Galaxy is a classic. Mario and space are a perfect pair and the game was super innovative.

Sweet. Thanks for the list! Definitely gonna have to pick up Super Punch-Out.

No volleyball objection here; I used to love Super Spike V-Ball for the NES :pint:

Now I wanna go and play some Sunset Riders and Cowboys of Moo Mesa...

I remember playing a fudge-ton of Sim Ant on my friend's SNES too lol (Sim City is better, but it was a fun alt game)

Uniracers was a fun game (mainly to compete with those Sonic games I feel like) so since you are a Genesis kid, you might check out videos of it

Knights of the Round looks cool, but it's pricey. There are some 'reproductions' for much cheaper on ebay. Anybody have experience with these? Worth throwing down for the original cartridge instead?

I didn't realize Sim City was on SNES. I had fun with it on cpu way back in the day. Might have to give it a shot. Is there a preferred or 'best' version?

The SNES one had a few differences from the PC version, one I remember was that the monster that would invade and destroy your city was Bowser lol

I think you could also use the mouse from Mario Paint with it IIRC?

That's awesome, I wish I still had an old tube tv for those... congrats on the score, that system had some of my favorite games of all time!

That's cool that you got MK II, it definitely improves on the first one. I still have the old Nintendo Power issue with the 2-page spread of everyone's special and finishing moves

A recommendation I will make: Gradius III. The only one I ever played from that series, but I absolutely love it. Some of those levels were hard, and it still has one of my favorite uses of the Konami Code ever :pint:

I've been a retro video game system magnet as of late. Still playing SNES (Mostly Super Mario World right now. Having lots of fun with it. Took me waaay longer to pass the World 3 castle and the 2 levels before it than it should have  As annoying as it is, I actually enjoy not being able to save after every level. Draws the game out and makes it more difficult).

After having a taste of the inferior SNES version of NHLPA '93, I couldn't take it and had to play the real thing. Our family Sega is up in Michigan so I grabbed a used model 1 Genesis and the game from the local retro shop. (It's so much better! It's faster, has way better music, controls, and more options like edit lines and playing as teammates in the playoffs. Blood too.) I'm currently not itching to get any other games for the system and don't remember loving many games for it other than Sonic and sports games like NBA Live '95 and NBA Jam. If there's any great Sega games I should try, please let me know.

A friend recently gave me a PS2 he was going to throw away. I pretty much play Tony Hawk games exclusively on this system. Picked up THUG and THUG2 for cheap at a thrift shop.

The craziest thing I stumbled on is an Atari 2600 with a bunch of games and different controllers. Hadn't played one in years. It's a light 6 switch with the wood grain and it actually works. It even came with my favorite game, Pitfall! No Ghostbusters or Q*Bert though. This system cracks me up. It looks like a super classy dehumidifier- fit for a log cabin. The controller ports are in the back. The controller cords are super short, but the AC adaptor and the one going into the TV are long, so you can sit further away as long as the system is next to you. I look funny laying in bed with it by my side.

The system has nostalgic/retro appeal, but so far, the only game I actually enjoy playing is Pitfall! These are the other games that came with it: Adventure, Asteroids, Combat, Defender, Missile Command, Othello, Pac-Man, Haunted House, Space Invaders, Space Attack, Star Raiders, Street Racer, Super Breakout, Video Pinball, and Warlords. There are some doubles of games with different covers and an asterisk after the name, such as Asteroids*. They appear to play the same as the non-asterisk games.

Anyone out there run the hack on their NES Classic? All that Atari 2600, SNES, and so much more can run off that little system.

snes stuff I'm picky about performance, but anything from before is pretty cool on it.
