I was a kid when that song was released...figures it spent 3 weeks at No. 2 in '69. Hated it.

I see a parallel given the meaning of the songs lyrics. Sue's father gave him that name in an act of love...he knew he wouldn't be there for his son...that the ridicule would force him to "get tough or die". That's, pretty much, what I've had to do around here - I had to get tough. That is...those that chose to throw fudge my way - you know...created the tough bitch that I became.

All of you know about aurora borealis or northern lights, but how many of you know about noctilucent clouds?
Took this shitty photo a couple of days ago with my phone around 1 AM (I think):

P.S. I really need to get a half-decent camera. It's been about two years now since my wife left the camera (and pretty expensive binoculars) on the bumper of the vehicle before we drove off and it was smashed on the highway. I was lucky to retrieve the memory card from it.

I love reading about upcycling.

Look at what they used to make a roof for this greenhouse. Clever.

I've been obsessed reading about homelessness and happened across this video. Building homes with plastic blocks.

Odds Codeblue has typed "the" in a work document?
Wanda: I can't stand people. I hate them. Do you hate them?
Henry: No, but I seem to feel better when they're not around.

Being an art god used to pay better until EB started thinking of redoing the site. He still has the title of god, but they cut his pay to that of a demigod. Now he picks up shifts at Denny’s to continue living the lifestyle he has become accustomed to.

Was going to post this in the politics thread, but it is more luls than politics:
Minnesota candidate posts revenge porn on campaign blog after wife's restraining order
An "unhinged" Minnesota city council candidate is under investigation for posting a topless photo of his wife to his official campaign website in response to an order of protection she'd filed against him.

In a now-deleted July 14 blog entry, David Martinez of St. Paul included the picture alongside a heated commentary on the couple's marital troubles and a copy of the restraining order cops had served him one day earlier.

Martinez has a "history of restraining me physically against my wishes and forcing himself on me," his estranged wife wrote in the document, in which she requested — and was granted — full temporary custody of their two children.

"His behavior has continued to escalate over the past 3-4 weeks," she wrote. "He has been diagnosed with major depression in the past, and his mental state seems to be impacting his behavior."

She said she'd called police to the family's house as recently as July 4, when the belligerent would-be politico, shouting and hurling threats, forced her to leave the home and locked her out when she tried to return for their 8-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.

Martinez, in his response, said his wife of 13 years had fabricated the claims.

"I am shocked and amazed that someone can make up a story just so they can kick someone out of their own home......and take the kids away," he wrote.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter quickly called on Martinez to bow out of the Ward 4 race after news of the post surfaced.

“David Martinez’s behavior is disturbing and has no place in our city," Carter said in a statement.

Martinez's despicable dispatch marks a new low in a campaign already beset by staggeringly poor publicity.

He was arrested and banned from the city's libraries earlier this month after aiming a vulgar tirade at staffers and loudly accusing a security guard of racism for booting an alleged property vandal.

"If you touch me, I'll take you out!" he shouted at a George Latimer Central Library employee, according to a police report cited by the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The next day, Martinez was ejected from a Minnesota Twins game in Minneapolis and barred from the ballpark for a year.

Martinez posted footage from that encounter to YouTube.

"Don't touch me, you're about to get smacked," Martinez is seen telling a security guard in the footage. "I'll f---ing knock you out, you old p---y."

"I was assaulted by the security team at Target Field," Martinez wrote in the video's description field. "No wonder people of color do not attend Minnesota Twins baseball games!"
I guess, that's Minnesota for you!

That story, RN, brought back a not-so-great memory of mine. When I was 14-15 yrs. old, I walked 14 miles to my Aunt's house to get help. My mother with three young daughters, unknowingly, married a child molester. We, (my older sister and I), told family members about this...but, either they didn't believe us or just didn't care because they didn't want to take the responsibility of helping three helpless young girls. My Aunt had her sister drive me home, maybe she felt guilty to do that herself...I don't know.

About 5 yrs. later, my step-father was convicted of raping a woman, (while still married to my mother and living in our home). When he was released from prison, my mother took him back. I was 18 yrs. old at the time of his release and still living at home with my mom and younger sister - she was 12 yrs. old. Still...no help from my family.

It is a wonderful thing to read how strangers are willing to help others in need. But, at the same time, it breaks my heart to know that my own family had no desire to help us.

There is no need to respond to my post. It just feels good to get this off of my chest...something that is extremely difficult for me to talk about. If my post, in any way, can encourage those to help someone that has tried to reach-out for help...that's all I can ask for.
