And yes, he is a hero. RIP John.

Thanks for posting that. In these divisive times I was having a hard time not going straight to the negatives (war hawk, GW embrace, etc.), but the class and courage he had to speak truth when his supports wanted pitchforks and hate is very admirable.
Yeah, I've got very mixed feelings on McCain. Far as evil politics go you can't lay the rise of the Third Right at his feet and they treated him badly too. I also considered voting for him in '08 thinking he could be the rational face of a party facing up to the disaster it had just just wrought. Thought better of it once Palin got involved - also Change.jjbehren wrote:Thanks for posting that. Otherwise he worked hard, made real progress where he was involved, was not dogmatic, and owned up to mistakes. He was also well respected in diplomatic circles, which as you get older starts to seem all important. The hawkishness, though, and voting to give the rich a trillion and a half dollars this past year do also weigh heavily. I think he understood this too, which is more than can be said for most of the hired guns anymore. Kind of scary to think of what comes next in terms of leadership.
Anyway - RIP
just a foil for me today, thanks
