Jerry Leiber, songwriting partner with Mike Stoller, at 78.

http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/ ... 6381.story

Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, Leiber and his lifelong writing partner, Stoller, wrote hits that included Elvis Presley's rat-a-tat-tat rendition of "Hound Dog" in 1956 and Peggy Lee's 1969 recording of the jaded "Is That All There Is?"
But they may be best remembered for the ebullient, impudent hits written for black groups like the Clovers ("Love Potion No. 9"), the Drifters ("Ruby Baby"); the Cheers ("Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots"), the Robins ("Smokey Joe's Cafe," "Riot in Cell Block No. 9") and, especially, a Robins' spinoff group that Leiber and Stoller helped create, the Coasters ("Searchin'," "Yakety Yak," "Poison Ivy," "Charlie Brown," "Down in Mexico," "Little Egypt").

Concert promoter Tony Ruffino dies following a stroke at 74.

For anyone who went to concerts in Alabama from the 1970s until 2004, Tony Ruffino was a familiar name. Before Tony moved to Birmingham few national touring acts played here. Tony changed all that beginning with a Jimi Hendrix Experience concert at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1969. Tony moved his family to Birmingham in 1977 and those of us who love live music became indebted to Tony for a lifetime of memories. Tony was a nice guy too and never too busy to stop and talk with a fan. Tony and partner Gary Weinberger built Oak Mountain Amphitheatre and set the bar for concert goers here. He will be missed. RIP Tony.

Adam Carolla was just talking on his podcast about visiting Uncle Frank in the hospital in connection with seeing old-man ball sack and hospital gowns.

$250 for the pair shipped and insured. Both are mint. Shipping should be around 7 or 8 bucks.

FYI: this was the collection that didn't make my walls, still beats your shitty little collections...and if it doesn't, I still couldn't care less.
