Something like this happened to a guy I work with. His pin and touch ID randomly stopped working. After a while on this phone with Apple, he got the same advice - the only way to fix it is a factory reset or restore from a back up. I'm with the other guys, the only troubleshooting step I can think of is the hard reset.

Almost a year later, what do you think about the Touch Bar? I'm going to be ordering a new MBP in the next couple of days and I'm up in the air. I'm bumping RAM up to 16gb and the SSD to 1tb, but I can't decide if the Touch Bar is a $300 gimmick or if the bar and associated upgrades are worth it.NoseSpray wrote:Snagged a 13" w/ Touch Bar today. Amazon has $200 off the top end model. For the wife, of course. Her Late 2012 rMBP AppleCare ends 10/31/16, so we'll drop that off tomorrow to take care of the freezing and trackpad issues. Then sell it on ebay once we get it back.
Also, how hard is it to train the Touch Bar to become self aware enough that it can act as a bot?
Yes, I have tried the hard reset after the turn off/turn on did not work. That did not help either.
I don't think the loss of reception had anything to do with it; I just mentioned it because that is how it happened.
The phone is hers for sure, unless someone took it out of her pocket, swapped the phone in the case and put it back to her pocket. Doubt that had happened.
It's iPhone 6 (maybe 6S? Don't remember but can check).
She ran out of space on iCloud a while back and hasn't been doing back ups since. So some (I would assume most) of the contacts can be recovered, I guess.
She is going to call Apple today to see if anything can be done.

Yeah. I had to ask. Just in case. Former Genius Bar Tech and you would be surprised how the simplest questions can figure a problem out.
Try logging on to icloud.com. that will give you a list of all the contacts and info that are backed up there if she was syncing to there. if you weren't sending your backups there it still should be syncing contacts. I think. It's been a while.
good luck.
i hope it works out.

Well, she talked to the service provider and there is nothing they can do. Apple suggested bringing the phone with a proof of purchase to one their locations and the geniuses might be able to something; otherwise, reset and restore. At least that is what I understood from our short conversation. So it looks like reset and restore to whatever it restores to is going to be the way to go, since the closest genius is about 6 hours worth of driving from us

I'm pretty excited for today. New iPhones, the new Apple Watch, possible Watch OS 4.0 release, new Apple TVs. It should be a fun (and likely expensive) day.

Me too. I've had my iPhone 6 Plus for 3 years now. I'm ready for an upgrade. I'd like to get the iPhone X but it'll depend upon the price.MJGallicchio wrote:I'm pretty excited for today. Thats what the assumption has been for awhile now. Unlock your old phone, sell it, now it costs as much as a regular 8jmagee87 wrote:$1000 starting price for the X

I think I'm most excited about the fact that Apple is auto-upgrading all HD movies in iTunes to 4K. I just hope that applies to both movies that were purchased and codes that were redeemed. The new iPhones are cool. but not exactly a "must have" for me.

Looking for a cheap (free) way to take screencaps. I have the ability to screencap anything showing on the screen (without scrolling) but the stuff that isn't showing on the document doesn't capture. I used to have one that screencapped the entire page (even what wasn't showing without scrolling) but when I updated my OS it stopped working.
Thanks
Thanks
