finished this on Audible (audiobook) a few weeks ago. My first Winslow and thoroughly enjoyed it especially because the voice behind First 48 is the narrator Dion Graham. his description of "kings" early in the book is eloquent poetry.

now moving on to The Cartel.

if you like The Force take a look at this: short graphic novel

The entire Criminal series is actually pretty massive, well worth a look and anything Brubaker/Phillips do honestly.

Brian Michael Bendis' pre-Marvel Indy Graphic Novels (published later by Image), are some fantastic crime noir stories.

Jinx, Goldfish, Torso, and Fire are all excellent

Nice one. Will def. check that graphic novel out. Hadn't heard of it.

Really enjoyed the Force also (I kept picturing Herc from the Wire as Malone for some reason). IMO the Cartel (& Power of the Dog) are even better. You don't need to have read Power of the Dog to read the Cartel but if you have the time, start with POTD. It'll give you some good background on some of the characters. Both are super entertaining.

Darwyn Cooke's Parker series too - adaptations of the Richard Stark (Don Westlake) novels. So damn good.

And like Frank said - anything by Brubaker/Phillips is great - Incognito is more super-hero crime, but very pulp-y.

Last Days of American Crime by Rick Remender is also a great little story.

David Lapham's series (name is escaping me right now) is like punk rock crime.

Garth Ennis's run on Punisher - again super hero crime with lots of ultra-violence.

yeah, all of these, but ESPECIALLY Torso. Really good comic on a fascinating case I knew nothing about before reading it.

My War Gone By, I Miss It So by Anthony Loyd

The best war book I've read. Maybe the best book I've read. Soon to be made into a movie starring Tom Hardy.
