That should be an interesting pour. I'm not a fan of the WR rye, but I've become a fan of their "regular" bourbon, and the double oaked is great.

Larceny Barrel Proof hitting shelves in certain stores in KY tomorrow. That should be interesting.

Might be too late but Jameson bottles have been ringing up for $2.99 at CVS... a friend just got back from lunch with 6 bottles for for less than $5 due to some additional discount if you bought 6 with this glitch.....

Picked up a Rebel Yell Bourbon, rather weak but interesting strong maple flavor. Could use a bit more proof for sure. Local in Cincy had a Willett Family Estate Reserve Private Barrel Bourbon hit the shelves at noon today. Even with a 1 bottle per person, per day limit it sold out in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Was wanting to try that. They still have a 13.5 year old Knob Creek SB I want to get so probably heading down there Saturday evening. Other then that we have been simply going with WT 101 and Woodford Reserve lately. The same local in Cincy had WR on sale for $23.99 so we bought 3 of them. In the raffle drawing for a Old Forester Birthday Bourbon on the 23rd, doubt I get it but I'm in anyway.

I have been drinking a lot of Japanese Whisky recently. Nikka Coffey Grain, Hibiki Harmony and Suntory Toki... but that got expensive fast. (LOVE the Nikka, probably too much.) Bought a bottle of Paddy's Irish Whiskey this week and am thoroughly enjoying it. Haven't had it in many, many years.

Anybody want to recommend another nice tasting, inexpensive whiskey for me to try next? I prefer neat but don't mind opening it up with a bit of ice or water.

Ever try Canadian Club 100% Rye? ($15)
Weller Special Reserve? ($20)

That's REALLY inexpensive for a Japanese Whisky drinker.
What price range did you have in mind?

The Japanese stuff was just a treat. Not cheap but I happened upon a local place that had it on clearance and made it a bit less. $50 for Nikka for example, but they only had two bottles. :( I found it way better than the more expensive Hibiki ($65) I was steered towards. The cheaper Suntory Toki was good too, but I find the Paddy Irish better.

I have had CC but not the Rye. I'll have a look at the Weller.
Price wise, if I can get in around the $20, my wallet will be happy.

That Canadian Club 100% Rye is WAY more interesting as a sipper than their flagship whisky.
Japanese Whisky is a treat for me too - I can't buy The Yamazaki 12YO any more, because the last time I picked it up was 2014, and it cost $45.
samuraiwriter wrote: Price wise, if I can get in around the $20, my wallet will be happy.
Henry McKenna is around $25 a handle.
(Their 10YO is really great, but around $30 for a 750)

Rebel Yell is a decent wheated bourbon for less than $20.
Four Roses Yellow Label is around $20

JP Wiser's Triple Barrel Canadian Rye
Pike Creek Canadian

The Antiquary Scotch

I've been filling a flask to the neck with Ancient Age Bourbon and adding a small amount of Black Box Whiskey for my "stick in my pocket to visit the mother-in-law" bottle.
Can't get any cheaper than that - thanks to what I believe was an error, I scored a few handles of Ancient Age for $11.99 each.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share. I am really enjoying the process of exploring this new interest of mine. Happy to do it a bit more respon$ibly.
I will start with the CC rye and McKenna,
:pint:

Jim Beam has come out with a couple variations as of late. My daughter just grabbed me a Beam Repeal Batch in KY, its white label at 86 proof without any filtration. It says to expect cloudy liquid with possible barrel char residue. Also came out with a Distillers Cut which is a 5-6 year old which is 100 proof also with no filtration. The DC was supposedly hand picked by Fred Noe. The DC was sold out but for $18 and $22 respectively I am waiting to try.
