Yeah here locally Bookers has went up actually to $73 plus tax. The plus tax thing has me a little peeved. It has always been in Ohio the listed price included all taxes and was the final, actual total cost. Well that has changed the last few months.
We cracked open the Taylors small batch last night, pretty disappointed. All I got was a heavy alcohol taste with very little else to offer. One of the few bourbons I have had that is just not balanced to me anyway. Going to let it breath out a few days and re visit.

Danno, just read this on Bourbonr FB page
Just had an interesting talk with an Ohio DLC agent while he was doing inventory at my distillery in regards to the BTAC & VW lineup. Short version...350 bottles of VW state-wide to be raffled soon. All 350 could be ORVW...they have no idea. Another 350 are set aside for bars/restaurants. The lack of the above bourbons in 2016 was due to the de-listing of several BT products 2 years when Ohio dropped the bottom 5% of products by sales.
The state & BT have kissed n made up. As far as he knows (covers northern OH) there was no W12 delivered to Ohio in the past 2 years because of this rift. However, there will be an allotment soon. The computer upgrade they've been working on is almost done, which will allow the state to shift focus on bringing more desirable products to market.
I don't know much about Ohio's distribution on Liquor or how they decide what goes where. Only thing I really know is the DLC owns all the liquor at all stores until it's point of sale and they can pull back anything at anytime.
I kind of doubt the BTAC talk though. TPS which is in Kentucky has complained about their allocation the last 2 years, and they claim to be the single largest seller of BT products bar none in the country. That is what they claim anyway.

Some nice bottles in here. Here are some of mine. I love my Irish whiskey. Back behind everything are some closed bottles of Inish Turkbeg, Glenore 19, multiple years of Midleton, special bottles from the Celtic Whiskey shop among others.

Try Forester 1920. More readily available and damn close to Birthday (actually better than 2016 in a lot of peoples opinion.)

Agree 100% SWT. The Prohibition ($60 here) is spicier w/a higher proof @ 115. A fantastic pour that's easily found on the shelves. Last yrs bday 97 proof ($80) is smooth w/a lovely butterscotch nose and taste. Just a matter of what your in the mood for.swtworld41 wrote:Try Forester 1920. Old Forester is solid across the board. Can't bring myself to buy the Statesman w/the corny movie cross promotion.

A question for my scotch lovers. I relatively new to the scotch world and have only been drinking trying different brands the last year or so. I started out with the lighter speysides like glenlivet, macallan, balvenie. Then a little while ago I picked up a bottle of Highland Park 12 and I really loved it. I loved the little smokey/peat taste it had on the finish as it wasn't overbearing and you could still taste the other flavors.
Anyway my question is i'm thinking about picking up a bottle of the highly regarded Lagavulin 16. I'm just wondering how big of a peat bomb is it compared to Highland Park 12. I've never had an Islay and always wanted to try Lagavulin because I know it is highly regarded. I know the obvious answer is try it at a bar or something first but there are no bars around me that have it. So since i just finished a bottle and need to pick up a new one I was thinking of going with Lagavulin.
Sorry for the long detailed post, but anyway, any insight would be appreciated.
TL;DR - Like Highland Park 12, how much more peatier is Lagavulin 16?

Damn nice haul Kid! That had to hit the wallet fairly deep. I still need to bag the OF 1920, this weekends score probably.
We have been strictly bottom shelving it for a good while, we have seen yet another across the board price hike on everything. The go to the last several visits anywhere has been a 1.75l of Evan Williams BIB for $25. Just for comparison Bulleit Barrel Strength has went from $48 with tax to $58 plus tax in the last 6 months.
If anyone signed up for the George Remus Bourbon giveaway I listed a while ago you should be seeing something soon, mine came today.
