I saw Ghost in the Shell last night and thought the future city aesthetic looked a lot like Bladerunner. Definitely more holograms but building sized advertising all over the place. I do think it's funny that in these movies self-driving cars are not there but they are testing them like crazy in my neck of the woods right now. I'd rather have a piloted flying car than a surface bound self-driving car though.

From my review of GitS:

"The city’s design is highly influenced by Blade Runner, but no CGI can match the authentic look and feel of that masterpiece’s sets and practical effects. What we get is a distant cousin, a sort of bastardized looking digital version. I still enjoyed venturing through the city filled with huge holograms similar to the one for Jaws 19 in Back to the Future II. As the movie progressed, however, the eye candy grew stale as we seemed to see similar, generic shots of the city from a distance, over and over."

Love Holden's reactions to Leon.

"You know what a turtle is? Same thing." So good at being the tired, condescending, been there-done-that cop.
