While searching around the net for information about this poster and anything I could find on it and previous printings, I came across this description which sounds pretty much spot on.

"Martin Sharp's print Jimi Hendrix captures the colour, vision, feel, and sound of 1967. Hendrix was a rock guitar virtuoso and 1967 was the year of his famous appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Martin Sharp has used a photo of Hendrix by Linda Eastman (later, Linda McCartney) as the base for this poster. To capture the raw emotion of his subject's
performance, he dissolves the image into bursts of electric colours. Sound becomes colour and Jimi Hendrix becomes an experience."

The ultimate diptych for me would be to hang the original Linda Eastman black&white photo beside the original Martin Sharp "explosion" print. Both have so much to offer. So similar yet so different.

I always defer to someone who's wearing a beater, regardless of what else he's wearing.

ORIGINAL Linda McCartney photos go for hundreds of thousands....

she only did 20 or so originals for every pic she took

Good point on cost, gunter. What I really meant was a great B&W photo from the original. The closest I've come to-date (which isn't too close, but at least it's a professionally done image) was this 11x17 museum exhibit poster 10 years ago:

Today is the last day to pre-order from his website for $532. I'm probably doing it.

That's the opposite of talking me down :)

And I know...I feel like I'm just going to wait until the last second, close my eyes, and hit submit on paypal.

I know, but I'm looking at it this way . . . buy it today and save $60. I know I'll never be able to afford the original so this is the next best thing.

Don't buy it... it's a reprint. It's not like you can ever think of it as an original, no matter how awesome it ends up looking in person.

Wish I had the money for this one. Easily the best Hendrix poster out there for me.
