i was surprised to see that this bootleg wasn't too bad in quality. Def a step down from the real 2nd, but they are a very cheap option vs paying $200+ for a real 2nd..sidewaysscott wrote:this image is seaux cool that i would take a fake. not implying anything though

I have been collecting posters since well before the small version of the Hawaiian Oxo first appeared back in the late 1970s. My recollection is that at that time they were generally regarded by collectors as knock-offs or bootlegs, rather than legitimate reprints. They were sold cheaply back then and were thought of as an alternative for those who couldn't locate the rare original but wanted a copy of the image for their wall or collection. It was not until the last 10 years that I started hearing them described as reprints. I would greatly appreciate hearing about any research or solid information as to who reprinted them, and exactly when--and why collectors should regard them as a legitimate reprint rather than just another knock-off of this wonderful image. Thank you.
By the way, thanks to whoever took the time to compile all this info on bootlegs of a reprint...
Also, for everyone's general information, over the years I have seen two uncut proof sheets (poster and handbills) of the original full sized image.

I am not sure who re-printed it, but Rick was involved in the process...
The actual bootleg, or 3rd is not authorized..
wow.. uncut proofs.. that would be quite a sight

I have what I think to be an original. I don't recall a white border at all, but it's been framed for so long that I guess I should check. I purchased it in Hawaii at the Open Market on Waikiki in Aug. of 1969 (right after the concert was supposed to have happened), for $1.00. I bought three of them and gave two away. The guy had a whole stack of them, maybe two inches thick. I've been researching validity, urban folklore, quantities etc. for years now and still can't get any definitive info. All I really know for sure is I have one and love it.
A friend of mine acquired a metal version of this print measuring 17" x 10.5" and is trying to figure out what edition it is and if it is legit, etc. I didn't see very much on here regarding the metal edition. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
