if stout added a border to the image, it wouldn't do anything for it except add noise, imo. i normally don't add borders by framing w/ double mats either (b/c most times, the print visually sinks into the frame and i don't want that), but what i want to do here is add some dimensionality to the image which is lacking a bit of depth, imo (the artwork is still beautiful!)

i'm also willing to argue that the red mat isn't distracting; if there were more red values in the print, or other colors for that matter, absolutely, but my instinct when framing prints is to pop color while letting the frame/mat mix w/ the midtones/shadows seen in the image
middayshadows wrote:Having said that, if you were going to do that, look at the frame at the top of the page - it looks fantastic and the border is about a third the thickness of yours. White matting looks much better than grey. Feels more consistent with the wintery feel of the print itself. I think it would look fine with a black frame, maybe even better. But that's the only thing I would change.
i guess it depends on what you want from your framed print; i crave contrast, not just from the prints that i buy, but how they're framed and where. white everything works as an option, i guess, but it severely lacks contrast to really pop off a white wall once it's hung, imo; i get what you're saying about its feeling, but to me, the white paper/white walls are enough (but i think it's a good idea to make my frame thinner). when looking at everything together, the red mat pops the red values in the image and acts as a bridge b/t white (paper) and gray (mat), and the dark contrast of the frame makes the print feel a little brighter as your eye moves from from the outside of the frame to the center of the image

thx for the input!

I figured out the variant. It's an albino like the main kid in the movie.

You're welcome.

This seems like a really undervalued print for being a Stout. It's listed as being wanted by a long list of members. And youjust dont see it pop up so much. Kinda crazy.

Anyway I took my Quad out of my cheapie Hollywood poster frame. Having a black and silver frame put on with a black and red double mat. Yep the red is on the inside like Fry's. It's going to be huge.

I also like this print very much. Stylistically it is a change from his characteristic complex collage of characters to a simpler presentation of the key pair.

It also allows the snow to be a dominant element of the print, as it is in the film.

I feel this image works particularly well in the quad format

Definitely in the top 2 Stouts I've seen. It's stylistically different and the colour scheme is simple and perfect.

Kill Bill. Stout's homage to another poster, so it was slightly different from his previous work.
But I'm also biased. I had been waiting for a Stout Kill Bill poster for years.

I agree..love Kill Bill and Stout NAILED IT
as great as LTROI is(movie & poster), Kill Bill is Stout's Best IMO(followed closely by Big Trouble, then LTROI)
I have the Variant framed and always get "Ohhh's & Ahh's" when friends and family visit

Good choice :pint:

My top 3 Stouts are Il Grande Lebowski, LTROI and Akira.

Since it's a love-in I'll say my favorite Stouts are LTROI followed by Kill Bill and then his Pelican gig poster.
Tyler's as popular as he is for a very good reason. It ain't hype, it's pure talent. Ain't an artist in the game better at making a movie poster than Mr. Stout.

:)

I rarely get Stouts from Mondo or the man himself. Well...I used to, back when they were plentiful.
