Anyone know if there's any plan to release the litho as a screen print, or each of the flags as screen prints? That would beat this lithograph. But I'm guessing that the 4 flags represent the four seasons, so if this did come out as a screen print, it would be with all four flags.

I did a little internet research and May Day celebrates the onset of spring. There's also this, from wikipedia: "May Day occurs on May 1 and refers to several public holidays.[1] In many countries, May Day is synonymous with International Workers' Day, or Labour Day, a day of political demonstrations and celebrations organised by the unions, anarchist, and socialist groups. May Day is also a traditional holiday in many cultures."

I thought about that initially too but then I was think with the message behind the recent "these parties disgust me" that May Day could be interpreted as Mayday! From Wiki-

A mayday situation is one in which a vessel, aircraft, vehicle, or person is in grave and imminent danger and requires immediate assistance. Examples of "grave and imminent danger" in which a mayday call would be appropriate include fire, explosion, or sinking.

Mayday calls can be made on any frequency, and, when a mayday call is made, no other radio traffic is permitted except to assist in the emergency.

Perhaps Shep is trying to sound the alarm...

The print release date is 5/1, which is the same date as the workers holiday, so no doubt he's referencing that. 4 flags for four seasons, so he's referencing the traditional spring holiday and the idea of new growth. And you're right, since these are U.S. flags perhaps he's saying "Mayday" to the direction that he thinks the U.S. is headed.

This, and the layout in general.
From a design standpoint a cross in the middle of a pictorial field is a faux pas.
A no no.

+1 Grabbed one and glad I did.

American flag, May Day, Shepard Fairey, S&N, $35, major NYC exhibit. Litho or screenprint, I'm happy to have this one.
