What time does your receipt say gonzo? mine's 2:57 PDT. I didn't check the donated total when I purchased cause I was half asleep. just wondering where I was in the purchased line.

It is a strange phenomenon, especially for a mass produced giclee that's not even signed or numbered by the artist himself.alngtheway wrote:never really understood the desire for low numbers. can someone please explain it to me? i would assume it doesnt have anything to do with print quality, but that is the only explanation i can really understand...
I don't understand that either, I'm not sure why someone would go out of their way or pay extra for a low number, maybe there is a good explanation, not sure why the first print of a run would be any better or more rare than the last print, or any other in the run, but maybe I'm missing somethingalngtheway wrote:never really understood the desire for low numbers. can someone please explain it to me? i would assume it doesnt have anything to do with print quality, but that is the only explanation i can really understand...
You're not missing anything. Some people think lower = better, but it's silly. Very often artists print/number them in reverse order so a lower number actually means it was printed later in the run.caleb wrote: I don't understand that either, I'm not sure why someone would go out of their way or pay extra for a low number, maybe there is a good explanation, not sure why the first print of a run would be any better or more rare than the last print, or any other in the run, but maybe I'm missing something
I have a favorite number, which sometimes I'll ask the artist/gallery if it's possible to obtain that particular number. Thankfully Elms Lesters was very accommodating when I bought my Parla.
Some block print editions can have 'issues' with certain portions of the run where the inks may not all be uniform, but that's pretty random.
historically silkscreened runs have all been graded from best to worst and then editioned accordingly. best going to the AP run, and then numbering from best to good. ....not worst. that practice seems to have been forgotten about...and now they just pick the best for the AP run, and then just go to town on the rest. seems to be a lost practice, and like you said, wouldn't matter on a giclee no matter what.
If you use ULINE tubes, please don't pm me about trades or sales.
I agree. Theres nothing especially great about a low number. Would I rather have a low number? Yup. Why? Because it makes me feel special.
If I get #3562, Im still happy cause this image is aaawwweeesssooooome.
Cheers

And this is why I like low numbers. I could care less, but if i decide to get rid of a print and other people like low numbers better, then it's better to have a low number.shoeless wrote:I agree. edit: and I just saw...I have no number preference (except having #1 would be cool sometime just cause).
True. And while I wouldnt pay more for a low #, I would give that sale priority to others.srdzevon wrote:And this is why I like low numbers.
