I can certainly see how that made a big difference in the voting for cinema posters.Timbrh2001 wrote:Didn't help that Phlegm's contribution this year was a largely mediocre selection from his repertoire.Kramerica wrote:I think for many people the criteria was just the artist being Horkey.

Yeah... I mean, what was the Society of Illustrators thinking in giving him gold, it wasn't a Horkey at all...Minolta70 wrote: Lolita/Kosowski out

I agree with you, I am not sure how it might implemented. But it would be great if top new artists received high-profile recognition somehow.egrimens wrote:I think the problem there is, where do you draw the line on new artist? Some people might have called Delort a "new" artist this year, while other have had pieces by him for years.1000steps wrote:I wish there was room in the process for Best New Artist categories. The heaviest hitters seem to be dominating these awards every year, which is appropriate and fine, except this repetition prevents work by hot new artists from receiving due recognition at the end of a year. That may be where some of the frustration comes from.
As far as the significance of the annual EB awards, while not the Nobels or Ocars or Emmys or even Pollstar, I believe they matter quite a bit within our world. Many artists and those collectors who frequent the aftermarket would agree, I suspect.

Didn't realize people got so heated over awards that don't mean a thing.

Durieux watered down his own votes with a gazillion movie posters last year. Plus, no movie posters have been getting more hype over the past couple years than Horkey's LOTR series. So there's that explanation.Kramerica wrote:I can certainly see how that made a big difference in the voting for cinema posters.Timbrh2001 wrote:Didn't help that Phlegm's contribution this year was a largely mediocre selection from his repertoire.Kramerica wrote:I think for many people the criteria was just the artist being Horkey.

Look, I'm sorry your picks didn't win this year. There's always next year. Glass half full, amirite?
