When posting links to eBay, please use the eBay buttons. In doing so, you will help support EB. The way they work is very simple.

Code: Select all

This shows a link with the item number
[ebay]200264295194[/ebay]

This shows a link with custom text
[ebay=200264295194]This auction is cool![/ebay]

The above code looks like this....
This shows a link with the item number
eBay 200264295194

This shows a link with custom text
eBay This auction is cool!

Look, i am not good at marketing. I don't have snake oil to sell you. But name another site that allows you to do what EB does. You can take the images anywhere and EB hosts it. You need more, EB gives more. And after all of those years and years and you will notice it is difficult to even donate. There are NOT BANNERS all over the site. There is NOT ANY MEMBERSHIP FEES. That is because EB HATES to ask for money. So instead, EB has fortunately found a way to support paying for all the services FOR YOU WITHOUT ASKING FOR YOUR MONEY. As it turns out eBay actually pays for EB to exist because all the these links we put here selflessly solely FOR YOU happens to, surprisingly to EB, generate revenue to pay the VERY EXPENSIVE costs it takes to provide this selfless service to the entire globe businesses and individuals equally. All EB asks, is that you please use these eBay links.

It does not even matter if the auction is over. eBay tracks new registrations and even a purchase of something else.

How does selling on eBay support EB, exactly?

If you link to an ebay auction through EB, ebay gives EB a small cut. I think you have to actually bid and win the auction though.

I'm curious, does EB get a cut if somebody clicks on an auction link via the For Sale postings on the item's page or does this just work for auctions posted in forum threads using the eBay code? Also, does this work for accepted best offers?

It seems as though this (at least the former) would be possible by including the same ID code in the links, provided this adheres to eBay's policy.

Yes, EB's commission is triggered both via forum links and those posted on the FS/FT pages of individual items in the database - it's part of why (along with adding more data to the sales histories) it's so crucial to have people track auctions in the database system. Any BIN or accepted Best Offer also triggers it. Any sale - be it auction, store, BIN/OBO style - will result in an eBay sale. Any eBay sale that came from EB will generate a cut to help sustain us :)
